Binary Opposites Binary opposites are two terms or concepts that are related but are opposite in meaning. Two theoretical opposites are defined and set off against each other. Strauss believed that the way we understood words depends on how we understand the different of the word and its opposites, and not on the meaning themselves. Harry Potter An example of this is from the film Harry Potter. Harry is seen as the good guy in every movie during in the series, which is wanted from the powerful Voldemort. Voldemort plays the role of the villain in the movie who supports evil, resulting with a final goal of killing Harry Potter, the chosen one Voldemort’s appearance is very expressive as it clearly shows the binary opposites between the two characters.
