analysis
The image of Grimes is presented on the front cover in a
powerful and dominant close up shot. This enables direct address towards the
audience by giving a deeper view of her facial expressions. The image can
create several questions by the audience. For example, is she trying to convey
or reinforce any messages, maybe to do with feminism? The personal gaze made
from the artist creates the illusion that she is looking into the reader’s eye,
possibly suggesting pain.
Costume
The producers use of silver jewellery creates the main focus
on the front cover. This results in the colours blending with her exposed pale
skin, connoting the idea of youth whilst the silver jewellery. The focus on the
jewellery and the costume presents almost alien-like and supernatural feel to
the image
Layout:
Title and Text
The front headline stands out as a bold and vibrant, which
draws attention to the brand identity as unique magazine. There is minimal text
on the front page, by focussing on the main article. This makes ‘Dazed’
simplistic and breaks the conventions of having a flashy magazine cover.
